After studying Sociology, History and Religious Sciences at the University of Bremen, I was a PhD-Student at the „Centre for Research on Antisemitism“ at the TU Berlin between 2010-2015. My recently finished PhD-thesis deals with State visits and Symbolic Politics in the development of German-Israeli relations, under the title „Behind the scenes: Visits of German politicians to Israel in the years 1957-1984“. I studied Hebrew and was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem between 2011-2013, with several scholarships from the DAAD, the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Leo-Baeck-Fellowship. From 2012-2014 I was a stipend of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung).
Since 2015 I have a post-doc position at the Fritz Bauer Institute in Frankfurt/Main, conducting research on the History of Scientific relations between Germany and Israel. Our website can be found here: www.gih.vanleer.org.il
My research interests include German history of the 20th century, German-Jewish history and Cultural History of Diplomacy.
