Kim Wünschmann gained her Ph.D. from the University of London, Birkbeck College in 2012. Currently, she holds a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Martin Buber Society of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is a visiting lecturer at the Department of Jewish History. Her research interests centre on German and German-Jewish history in modern times, with a focus on the Weimar Republic, National Socialism and the Holocaust.
Jewish Prisoners in Nazi Concentration Camps, 1933-1939
Focussing on the pre-war period, the study analyzes the function of camp-imprisonment for the development of the regime’s antisemitic policies and the camps’ important role as instruments of terror and exclusion in the making of the Nazi Volksgemeinschaft. It also examines Jewish responses to camp violence and their resistance to a brutal criminalization meant to forcefully turn ‘Germans’ into ‘Jews’.
