PROF MICHAEL MEYER (Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati)

Professor Michael Meyer was born in Berlin, Germany, and brought to the United States as a small child in 1941. Since 1967 he has been on the faculty of the Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati, where he is currently the Adolph S. Ochs Professor of Jewish History.

His major work is Response to Modernity: A History of the the Reform Movement in Judaism (1988). Among his other publications is Jewish Identity in the Modern World (1990) and he also edited the four-volume German-Jewish History in Modern Times (1996-98). He chairs the Publications Committee of the Hebrew Union College Press and is a Fellow and executive committee member of the American Academy for Jewish Research. He is currently International President of the Leo Baeck Institute.
