Hannah Lewis was born on 1 June 1937 in Włodawa, Poland to a large and prosperous family. She was just two years old when her town was occupied by Nazis. At six years old Hannah and her family were taken to a work camp named Adampol. Her father and cousin were able to escape, but Hannah and the rest of her family were not. She witnessed the shooting of her mother by German police whilst at Adampol. Eventually, Hannah was rescued by a Soviet soldier. She was found in a trench, dirty and very hungry. In 1949 Hannah and her father moved to Britain to live with his aunt and uncle. They were the only two survivors of their family. The rest were murdered at extermination camps or shot close to their homes. Today, Hannah lives in north London. She has recently started sharing her experiences in schools, colleges and universities so that young people can understand the impact the Holocaust had on the contemporary world.
Professor Wayne Morrison will give an introduction and speak about the importance and difficulty of witnessing the Holocaust.
This event will be followed by a drinks reception to which all attendees are invited.
