Cinematic Loss: Missing Pieces of German Film, 1929–1933

Dr. Andréas-Benjamin Seyfert is a multilingual film historian, digital humanist, and Lecturer in Germanic & Slavic Studies at UC Santa Barbara. Specializing in Weimar cinema, German-Jewish exile, and feminist media archaeology, his work resides at the intersection of film theory, gender studies, and transnational media history. Dr. Seyfert explores cinema as a dynamic site of cultural memory, particularly within contexts of displacement, resistance, and historical rupture. He critically engages with early sound cinema, exile experiences, and interwar European aesthetics, while developing digital frameworks to advance media preservation and scholarly access. An active contributor to the public humanities, he curates film programs, authors scholarly works, and leads interdisciplinary initiatives in digital archival practice and critical media literacy. Dr. Seyfert welcomes collaborations and editorial projects that expand access to underrepresented film histories and reimagine the role of digital scholarship in preserving cultural memory.
