We are excited to announce that our thirteenth Snapshot of German-Jewish History and Culture is now available online. You can explore it here: Novels, Narrow Escapes, and the Power of Words: The Work and Life of Lion Feuchtwanger.

This new feature delves into the life and work of one of Weimar Germany’s most prominent literary figures: the internationally acclaimed German-Jewish novelist and playwright Lion Feuchtwanger (1884–1958).

Feuchtwanger’s vivid and keenly observed socio-political writings, along with his fierce criticism of the rising Nazi party, not only resonated deeply during his time – impacting contemporaries such as Bertolt Brecht – but also led to his persecution and eventual emigration to the USA.
