Luisa Klaus is a musician and musicologist, currently PhD candidate at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. In her research she is dealing with the works of German-Jewish musicologist Edith Gerson-Kiwi (1908–1992) in their situatedness between Near Eastern and Western European culture. Until today Gerson-Kiwi remained widely disregarded – and if so, then simply described as an Israeli ethnomusicologist. As contrasted with this common notion Luisa Klaus purposes to depict Gerson-Kiwi as being primarily shaped by her early studies in music philology and the philosophical movements in Germany near the end of Weimar Republic.
