The Leo Baeck Institute London would like to invite you to another free online screening from the LBI Film Club, starting on Friday 19 September 2025. We hope all the film lovers among you will continue to enjoy our selection of thought-provoking films exploring the rich, diverse and multi-faceted Jewish experience. This latest offering is gentle, sometimes tragic, and deeply moving.

On a train to Auschwitz, 15-year-old Eva made a promise to her older brother Heinz: if he did not survive the camps, she would retrieve the paintings and poetry he had hidden under the floorboards of an attic outside Amsterdam.

Heinz Geiringer’s story sits in the shadow of the better-known The Diary of a Young Girl. After the war, Eva became Anne Frank’s posthumous stepsister when her mother married Otto Frank. While the world knows Anne’s story, this film introduces Heinz – his artistry, and his sister’s determination to preserve his remarkable legacy.

Eva’s Promise is directed by Emmy Award-winning television and documentary filmmaker Stephen McCarthy, whose credits include 60 Minutes, Dateline, Charlie Rose, MSNBC, PBS, BBC America, and Reuters. The film premiered to great acclaim at the Montclair Film Festival in the United States and has since been shown at various theatres, museums, educational institutes and cultural forums.
